I have used Audacity very successfully for a number of years but am now experiencing problems on a new computer. (No issue with RAM) When recording on Audacity the program experiences intermitant freezes. Stops goes silient then continues until it happens again. BTW my old computer with Audacity 3.2.2 on does not experience any problems. Done all the usual things to rectify like updates and drivers. Spent a lot of time on the Audacity forum looking for sullutions without success. There seem to be a lot of other users experiencing similar issue and not resolving them. I like Audacity and am relucatant to ditch it. Anyone else had the similar issues and found a solution it would be appreiated if you could share. A long shot I know.

Thanks

.

Have you tried the recommendations in the FAQ?

https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#H...

I'd start with that. Higher priority in the OS, DMA and buffer size is what I'd start tinkering with. You didn't mention operating system (going to assume Windows) or type of drive (SSD vs magnetic) or what other programs your might be running at the same time. Is expect something like anti-viruses or programs which suddenly require a lot of processing to interfere with audio recording, so the issue might not even be within audacity itself, but with other programs competing for the resources (CPU, disk) with it. I'd temporarily disable antivirus and test if that fixes the issue. Change one thing at a time so you know what makes the difference, if anything does.

Change one thing at a time.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have Audacity running in three computers and that includes a laptop. All three have performed well for a number of years. Your suggestion to try one thing at a time is a very sound one. I am running Win 11 and the two desktops are powerful computers and both are so hard drives. I am leaning towards the possibility of an upgrade to me virus protection may be the culprit. Thank you for taking the time.
