g'day, wondering if its just me or a broader problem. i'm finding a lot of videos taking a long time to load, like twice the length of the clip. especially bad tonight but its been happening sporadically over the last couple of weeks. if you have a similiar problem could you post below, and maybe mention your location also?

From time to time

Hey Dave - I'm not finding them usually slow but the other day, there definitely was a change. It took forever (which meant I just gave up) and then about an hour later it came up slowly, and then another hour later, it was just fine. It's been fine since.

Maybe I (we?) should start logging the time and day to see if it's related to internet traffic or........... I'm on the west coast of Canada; Victoria, British Columbia

"Here in Tasmania"

mine is running OK today...still sluggish , but fast enough to not be a problem; it only has to load faster than it plays hey. it would be nice to know what the issue is. i don't think its my hardware, because other stuff seems to be working as usual. likewise, my provider/connection for the same reason. i'm just interested to hear others' experiences to see if we can find the variable.

Here in Aus land too

I think it may be something to do with internet traffic-I think mine becomes a bit slower when the northern hemisphere is coming online-but thats just my theory

thanks Patricia

i have wondered about whether thats an issue but i dont know...in the US right now its 6.30am on the east coast, 3.30am on the west coast...10.30pm here in eastern (summer time) australia...i mean its always peak time somewhere in the world

all i know is that mark hummell's video are not keeping up with the playback on my ethernet cable connection and puffin on my iphone is 'forget it' territory. its been this way for a few weeks..probably why i am doing more posting lately while i wait for the videos to load.

everything else on my computer is working as usual, no issues with youtube or downloads. just the clips on this site are causing me grief...
this issue is starting to bug me now. its been going on too long
on the other hand, it seems not many others are having a problem so maybe its to do with being at the end of the world.

thanks to everyone who has responded to this thread so far.
Dave

Answer

Good morning Dave. Sorry that you're having issues with loading... no fun.

Note that I don't commonly look at all the postings on this part of forum, but I do look at the admin postings and my "Ask Instructor David Barrett" listing.

All the videos on the site are served from the Amazon S3 Server (the cloud). All the videos are coming from the same "bin," so there should not be any differences in the videos. The wide-screen footage will take longer to load. I looked into this a bit and found this site to view the status of the S3 server in your area: http://status.aws.amazon.com/

I sent a note to Andy, our tech for the site, to look into this and see if he can find anything.
