Hi David

I started the course with great enthusiasm through the LOA at the end of 2024. Before that, I had only played for three months and without any tongue block. By July 2025, I had completed level 7. Then summer came and I stopped. When I returned from vacation, I started jam sessions for the first time, and the possibility of forming a duo arose. The thing is, I abandoned it that July and only read the forum a little. I've noticed how my progress has stalled, even though I've improved in other areas. We continue with duo rehearsals; I try to sing as well as play the harmonica... I'm definitely learning. But I've decided to reconnect with LOA 8, and I'm finding it hard to get started. I remember that in the accompaniment section of that level, I didn't quite understand what was required.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hello Mon1979. Sounds like

Hello Mon1979.

Sounds like you're busy doing some pretty cool stuff.

As you go through LOA, feel free to ask me questions here.

Go to the LOA page and click on L8, then "Take the Test," and you'll see a hook I've written.

Take that hook and play it over the 12 bar blues. Sequence the hook so that it matches the IV and V. After getting that dialed in, think about how you would play that hook for entire song. Most players will change it slightly over the course of the song, while not changing it too much (the hook is the theme of the song, so you don't want to change it so much that it ruins the repetitive theme of the song). Use all of the tools I've taught you in the lessons on how you might make those slight changes. Play three choruses of changes in 2nd Position and three ways of playing it in another position (probably 3rd Position makes sense for this hook).

Let me know if you have any questions after working on this for a bit.

P.S., a review of the Accompaniment Series is not a bad idea... it will mean a lot more the second time though... you'll be a better musician for it.
