Hello Skip:

I picked up an Ampro speaker cabinet with a 12 inch Ampro (Jensen from what I understand) P12 NS speaker.  I measure it at 12.8 ohms.  2 questions:

 1.  the speaker has two 1/4 inch jacks on it.  Is that to run speakers in series?  I only use one if I want to connect it to a head, correct?

2.  I also picked up a Challenger CH18 PA amp.  It has speaker output jacks of 4, 8 and 15 ohms.  If I want to connect just this speaker to this amp, which output jack do you recommend?

Thanks,

Mark

Hello Mark- Thanks for

Hello Mark- Thanks for writing. Good score! The two jacks are in parallel, so you can use either one or both. The speaker is 16 ohms but cool cats know that they sound great with an 8-ohm amp. Good old tube amps can handle a 100% mis-match up or down so try the 16-ohm or 8-ohm taps on your Bogen and use the one that sounds best.

Score is right!

Thanks.  I didn't know about the mis-match.  That makes me more comfortable since I didn't want to damage the amp.

Good score is an understatement... got the amp for $15 and the cabinet for $20 at an antique radio show.  The speaker cabinet and speaker are near perfect.  The amp was filthy and missing 2 knobs, but I have it partially restored, enough to test it and determine that the transformers are good and that it will work.  Just waiting on some more caps to finish it off.  I should have played the lottery that day!

Thanks to you and David for inspiring me to check out those old PA amps.
