Hi Bev, I don't have a Blues

Hi Bev,

I don't have a Blues Jr but here's how I'd set it up for harp. This should work well with pretty much any Hi-Z mic.

Master Volume - on full
Gain - as high as it will go before feedback sets in.
Bass - around 6-8
Middle - around 3-5
Treble - off
I wouldn't put the "fat" switch on.

I would also change the first preamp valve/tube (V1) from a 12AX7 to a 12AY7. It's the one on the far right as you look at the amp from the back. It'll probably have a little metal jacket on it which you just twist and pull off.

Hope this helps

Paul

Check the "Equipment" section

Dave has a pretty good tutorial on amp use and settings in the equipment section. It helped me quite a bit.

Hi Bev,

Hi Bev,

The 12AY7 will lower the gain of the amp and allow you to get more useable volume from the amp before feedback sets in. Sometimes it can make the tone controls more useful (although this is subjective). Quite often because of the gain factor of a 12AX7 it can sound quite trebly. A 12AY7 (or even a 12AU7) can make an amp sound more bassy.

Tubes/valves are pretty cheap. I'd say get a 12AY7, 12AT7, 12AU7 and then try them out and see which combination you prefer.

Hope this helps

Speaker

I also put a Weber Alnico speaker in to replace the OEM speaker and that made a huge difference.
