Hi David,

In accompaniament study 4 you mention that it would be a good idea to maybe rewrite the study song to gain experience in this field. Do you mean as well as rewriting the parts where John sings, rewriting the part to the guitar solo and harp solo. If this is so is it best to notate the parts or just play over the top of the recording and see what comes out as in improvising.

Have a great day,

Paul

Evening Paul. I was speaking

Evening Paul. I was speaking of the approach to playing the harp.

Get rid of what I did and work on ideas with the track (whole band and Jon's vocals and solos) and come up with you own approach... what you would do under his solo to support him, but not get in the way... same with his vocals... do your own solo when it comes time... etc. Listen to the track from beginning to end and make a plan on who you'll approach it.

No need to write anything down unless you feel it will help you. I don't write anything down when I do this... I just go over and over it until I find parts that sound good to me. It may be a good idea after a practice session to record yourself (use your phone voice memo or something... make it easy) playing through once so that you don't forget what you came up with the next time you sit down to work out more ideas.

Many thanks, great advice. Just one more clarification, could this approach also be utilised when improvising to a jam track.

Thank you
