Hello, I am studying "So Blue for You" LOA #6 and recently developed a problem with the 5 draw and possibly the 2 draw.   It has a gurgle sound as though it was under water (at times a rapid tapping sound).  I removed the cover plates and  "cleaned" the windsavers with a piece of brown paper bag, plunked the reeds, reinstalled and the problem remains.  I am using the Super Chromatica 270 Delux (12 hole).   Also, it seems that if I draw very softely, no problem however with any addition draw pressure the odd sound returns.   I would appreciate any help with this issue.  Thanks  Mic

It may not be a valve

It may not be a valve problem. I tmight be a problem of the reed contacting the slot, either due misalgnment of he reed in the slot, or a burr on one striking the edge of he other.

5 hole draw, chromatic.

Thanks Winslow. I looked at the 5 draw reed (The top plate, rivot away from player, no wind saver) and cculd not see any debris or burrs. so I adjusted the gap in both directions and it helped a bit by decreasing the gap.  The rapid tapping sound was eliminated.  I would like to check the underside of the top plate attached by seven screws however the brass plate seems stuck. Do I pry it off?  This could be an expensive mistake.  Since I am an artist blacksmith I can usually solve any problem with heat, hammer and anvil.....not a good idea with this instument so I could use your expert direction.  Thanks, Mic

Hello again Winslow,  When I assembled the cover plates and played normally as opposed to gingerly with cover plates off the rapid tapping reoccurred.

Hohner may know

I had some braying valves when I played at louder volumes. Being that I'm at the SPAH convention right now and Hohner has techs onsite, I took it to them (this was on an ACE 48) and the tech, Tim, was able to solve the problem. However, he didn't tell me what he'd done (perhaps I should have asked, but I do know that we both agreed it was a valve problem). Perhaps when they're back in the office next week you could call him up and ask for his advice.
