Hi

I am after a little expert opinion (help!).

I have a 520D with original cable, recently I have seen a drop in outut volume compared to an old blues blaster. (These used to be comparible in output.)

Could this be a cable related problem, or something a little more serious.

I had intended to remove the old cable and replace with a switchcraft connector, as the grounding is a little suspect.

I am new to all this so any input greatly received.

Regards

Alex

A drop in output

Hi, AlexA drop in output volume with no associated intermittent issues sounds more like an element issue than a cable issue - where a pending failure is usually indicated by intermittent problems that get better/worse as you wiggle the cable where it enters the mic.

But these elements rarely simply drop in output.

In other words - hard to say! Any good mic builder should be able to check it out for you though, and I am happy to do so if you like.

Cheers

drop in output

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the response. I am in the UK so the cost of sending you the mic was a little prohibitive.

I did wonder whether I had some other issue going on.

But as I had the 2501MP ready to go and access to a small machine shop and a boss who knows his way around the tools. I have made the change and things seems back to normal.

The ground screen on the cable was in poor shape (original cable of a approx mid 90s mic), but still I was not getting any other symtoms i.e. crackle.

I will see how it goes, could I have fixed something else in the process?

Cheers

Alex
