David

Help clarify 3rd postion cord progression for me.

I know that when playing in 1st postion ;

I cord = C E G Bd

VI cord = G B D F

V cord = D F# A C

2nd position;

I cord = G B D F

VI cord = C E G Bd

V cord = D F# A C

Question on 3rd postion VI and V cords

I cord = D F# A C

VI cord = ?

V cord = ?

Thank You

I shouldn't butt in here but I just wanted to remind you Thomas that it should always be fairly easy to determine the chord progression for any position as (in the case of the 12 bar blues) it will alway be the I, IV, and V chord just like you mentioned. So you take the root note i.e, "C" and write down the C major scale:  C, D, E, F, G, A, B.   C is the root or first degree of the C scale.  D is the second degree or note, E is the third, F is the fourth, etc.  So to determine what the I IV V is in the key of C - we know the I chord is C  Now count up 4 degrees or notes to find the IV.  We see that is "F"  and the final V chord is the 5th note or degree of the scale - G.   I chord  C  IV chord F  V chord G

Key of D:    D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#.   I= D  IV = G  V= A.  Hope this helps you - Harp on!
