David,
I am working on the 3 hole bends....in this case Key of A.
Using my tuner I can reach F# or 3" but as I do my volume goes way down....the lower I go.
Why is that and what to do?
Also on the 3 hole....I reach a certain point and then the reeds let out a squeal...what does that mean?
Thank you!
Steve

Answer

Your tongue is too high to the roof of of the mouth, essentially squeezing and decreasing the airflow, thus a lower volume. Don't worry about this right now... get pitch control and tone will come with time.

The squeal comes from going a little bit too far... stop a bit earlier. A side note, don't train yourself to go below the whole step bend right now, it just causes trouble. By the time you need the 3''', you'll be able to hit it without a problem.
