I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, so apologies for the repetition... With a bit of fishing I can hit and hold all of the 3 draw bends (A harp). The tone of the 3" is pretty lousy though - sounds rather airy. Is it possible to get a sweet sound out of it? Thanks, Joel.

Hello Joel. Yeah, the 3"

Hello Joel.

Yeah, the 3" does not have the best tone... for all of us. With use and time, it will sound better for you (less squeezed and stressed in tone), but it will never be as smooth sounding as a standard blow or draw note.

Tip...

Experiment with dropping your jaw slightly (or overall larger mouth cavity) and using more of the front of your tongue for your 3". Also try not opening as much and using more of the back of the tongue. Basically, the idea is to create the same cavity size (the volume of the mouth equals the bend) in different ways to see how it changes the tone, and control of the bend, for you.
