Anyone out there had a chance to play through a 2016 Megatone Wezo ME18 with the new 3 way Mids Switch?  I'm curious how pronounced the tone change is between the 3 different settings.

Thanks,

Loren

The switch makes a significant difference.

Hard to describe in words (for me, at least). I'll try to do a demo recording with the switch in each position, and get back to you.

Hi Mark, Thanks for offering

Hi Mark,

Thanks for offering to do that, much appreciated. The reason I asked is that I recently picked up a used 2012 Wezo ME-18 and was planning on having Dale at Megatone upgrade the amp to current specs. I was trying to decide whether or not to have the mid switch added as part of the upgrades. As it turns out, only a mid-scoop switch could be added to my interation of the amp, no boost. Dale actually just completed work on the amp and it should ship today or tomorrow.

So, with that said, while I (and perhaps others), would still be interested in how the 3 way mid switch affects the tone on the ME-18, I wouldn't want you to go to any trouble on my account at this point.

Just out of curiosity, do you have the 1x10 or 2x10 version? Tornado or Red Fang speakers?

No problem

I have the 1x10 with Red Fang speaker.

I spent an hour or so at Dale's, listening to the amp with each speaker on his wall of speakers. None of them sounded bad on this amp, but I liked the Red Fang most, as a single  speaker.  So far, I haven't played in a situation where I needed more than that, and I'm glad to not have to carry around any extra weight.  But I can hook up an extension speaker or speakers if needed for more volume. It will drive a 4 x 10 if needed, but I probably won't be playing the venues that would require that. And the line out can always be sent to the PA (it comes off the output transformer, so both the preamp and the power amp qualities are in there).

I love the amp. It's versatile, and sounds great in low and high-volume situations I really love it with low-tuned harps. I'm still trying to learn how to make the most of the bells and whistles (fat switch, boost, pad control, and scoop switch). I usually end up playing it with the PAD set low, not using the mid-switch or the boost or fat switch. But it's nice to be able to change up the sound for some variety when desired.

Thanks for taking the time to share your impressions,

Nice to hear the amp is working out so well for you Mark. Like you, I wanted something relatively light and versatile, so I had been on the lookout for a used Megatone ME-18 for sometime. Finally found a 1x10 version and the price was right.

It's great that you got to try out the various speakers side by side on the speaker wall At Megatone. My amp has the original Tornado speaker, however I do have both the Alnico and Ceramic 10" Red Fang speakers at home, which I am looking forward to trying in the Wezo.

The amp arrives today and I'm excited to finally get it - I had the original owner ship it straight to Dale for testing, upgrades, some repairs to the tolex - so although I bought the amp several weeks ago, today will be the day I finally get to hear it for the first time. One of the things Dale was able to do for me was install a headphone output with volume control, and a speaker cut-off switch.  As an apartment dweller, that's a huge benefit for me, and my neighbors, lol. Dale had to remove the top pilot light, relocate the top panel fuse, and move some controls on the top panel around, but he squeezed everything into the amp that I wanted, including the mid-scoop switch. Posted some before and after photos on the Megatobe Facebook page, but the link is giving me trouble posting here.
