Well... after months of R&D, we present the first look at the WEZO DOMINATRIX harp amp - the ultimate arena rig. Is it wrong for the harp player to have 140 watts of power on board? Just ask Magic Dick about that!  The bottom end attack is un-real when using a tongue slap for the 4 blow, and when cutting off the bottom three holes it has the percussion of a sledge hammer driving out the notes.  With a tight cup on the mic the pressure built up between your harp and the mic will aggressively increase the volume of the amp. You can go from a whisper to a fog horn without touching a volume control.

Our build is centered around a pair of the new TungSol KT120 power tubes. The design features a tilt bass control (like a teeter-totter with only bass or only treble, where you can strike just the right balance) a tone control for just the right cut, and a switch to operate either both power tubes (140 watts) or just one power tube (65 watts). On the back is switch for high or low plate voltage, to further expand the flexibility and feel of the output circuit. Depending on how the power and voltage switches are set results in your choice of three power levels: 140 watts, 60 watts (one power tube w/high plate voltage or two power tubes w/low plate voltage), and 40 watts.

Other features include a wide ranging PAD feedback control, high/low input impedance switch, and line-out control (to feed the PA or a recording device, ect.). The enormous, and radical transformer set is brought to you by the good folks at Mercury Magnetics.

Target price for this amp as a head will have a street price of $2,500. This is only a pre-press release, much more including a YouTube demo to come in a few weeks up on our website at megatoneamps.com

UPDATE 6/25/2014

After further testing and experimentation with the power supply, we have found that a tube rectifier compression feel is enhanced by lowering the output power to just over 100 watts.  Now the power settings are as follows:  100 watts with both power tubes in high voltage setting, 45 watts with either one power tube on high voltage setting OR both power tubes in low voltage setting, 30 watts with one power tube in low voltage setting.  This change greatly improves the response and feel, while allowing a wide range of power levels to choose from.  Running on one power tube in either voltage setting adds increased compression, dual tubes produce more dynamic head room and clearity.

What kind of speaker

What kind of speaker combination are you imagining this will work best with? If you develop it into a combo would it possibly be with a 4 x 10"? Thanks.

Speakers For MegaTone Amp

The head weight is about 30 pounds, so the net weight of a DOMINATRIX combo would be at least 60 pounds depending on the speakers and how many are used.  Since all MegaTone products are built to order, we could make a combo version of this amp configured any way you like.  Using four Jensen Jet Tornado tens in a combo or extension cabinet would be a fantastic compliment to this harp amp.  Our initial testing has been with a compact MegaTone cab loaded with the Eminence Governor 12 + Ragin Cajun 10, that sounded awesome.  We feel that taking a modular approach that put cab and amp combinations together, allows the greatest flexibility to match your setup to the venue.

A thing of beauty

..and I love the name!

Would you mind pointing one of them east and letting Wezo or someone play through it so I can see what it sounds like here in New Bern?
