It's no secret and no mystery that the THREAD-ON audio connector (typically the SWITCHCRAFT 2501 family) is my fave for several harpmic applications. Yes, they have their design weaknesses, but when thoughtfully applied and well-maintained there's really no equal for its compact durability.
THIS WEEK'S MORSEL: Putting the screws to the cable-end thread-on connector. The inner 'HOT' connection's stability is dependent upon the outer strain relief spring being anchored rock-solid and immobile by the set-screw in the side of the connector's body. This is also the point of transfer for the continuity of the 'GROUND' or 'NEGATIVE' signal from the microphone to the cable's shield. Get in the habit of making certain this set-screw's locked-down tight. A good twist with a small slot-headed screwdriver will help insure solid continuity -and lasting stability for the 'HOT' center conductor as well...
