Today I started to play my new 270 Bb Chromatic that Steve Malerbi customized for me and discovered the 4 blow wouldn't respond. I was thinking it was a stuck windsaver but when I got the covers off I discovered that a turkey sandwich was wedged on the edge of the reed. I took my reed plinker and gently removed the object and the problem was solved.

Sometimes you will break a reed but quite ofter it's a simple obstruction or even dried saliva that's the offender. Being able to tell which reed on the harmonica that is stuck is important. FYI the blow reeds are on the top and the draw reeds are on the bottom. When putting your harmonica back together be careful to place the correct reed plate and cover where they belong. The blow plate is the one that has the rivet pads that are even with the edge of the harmonica and the reeds face inward. If you have trouble identifying which is the blow and draw plates take a sharpie and mark them before disassembly.

Go slow and plink gently.

Best Regards,
Jon
