My Son Joshua has been learning to play the guitar for about a year now.. We recorded one of our jams and here it is.. this is totally improvised and on the spur of the moment... criticism & suggestions to improve my playing is welcome.

Defiling a George Harmonica Smith Classic.
Messing around with third position.
I improvised the verses and stole most of the solo (third chorus).
Playing through my "homemade" Shure 9822 (old smaller brown bullet) with a CR element, DD-7 delay pedal, and Kalamazoo amp.
Octaves sounded too "major" when I tried them in the last chorus, so I dirtied them up. Now I wonder if they are too dissonant?

New Apartments Stomp

Chromatic Study

Jamming along with a backing track on a C chrom in 3rd position. Fidelity is pretty bad but you can hear what I'm doing. I have trouble tracking my mouth movements with the mic (RJ Mischo recommends this for chrom and after this, I know he's right). There's also some pretty sloppy phrasing. Gets better at around the two minute mark I think though. I think the YouTube vid sounds a bit better (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1TVfKmpWeM ). Please let me know what you think.

Steady

Here's my rendition of Jerry McCain's 'Steady'. It's a GREAT tune. I listened to McCain's version, of course, and David's version on the "History of the Blues Harmonica Concert" CD (great CD). I used David's transcription and the Steady backing tracking from Shoji at http://www.bluesharptracks.com.

The past seven months of using this site, I've been working on my tone. I started as a pucker player and switched to TB and have gotten great feedback from David Barrett (mostly he said, your tone is thin...). So every time I pick up the harp, I worked on my tone with the opening of Portney's Blues for Big Nate. I thought I'd upload my progress and share. I think I'm sounding better--which is a testament to David's site and lessons. continue reading...
