In this series of tips I stated you should always be working on three things... technique, song and application. Let's focus on application for a while.

When sitting down to work on a song, say "Gary's Blues" from Tongue Blocking Study 3. After you've spent some time working on the opening chorus, finish with time working with the licks in that chorus. Grab the first lick of the song... play the provided jam track on your CD or Computer... slow it down 25% (you don't want to fight speed right now)... play the lick as an AAA, then AAA with fills, then AAB, then AAB with fills, then A B/A C. Your goal is to place the licks into what we KNOW to be good phrasing.
