We've so far ignored chord change in favor of the simplicity of one scale and its focus notes relative to the home chord (I7 Chord). Our next step is to tip our hats to the IV7 Chord in Bars 5 and 6.

The IV7 Chord is C E G Bb, making 6+ G, 8+ E and 9+ notes of the IV7 Chord. Improvise again to your jam track and when the IV7 Chord comes, play one of those notes, tipping your hat to that chord change by playing one of its notes (which is the strongest musical thing to do) and then continue on improvising within the scale, not concerned with "staying within" the IV7 Chord by only playing IV7 Chord notes. This way of playing honors the chord change, while not tying you down to only playing notes of that chord.
