Hi All,

Around 2010 I started with bluesharmonica.com. Even went to 2 masterclasses around 2012 and 2013 (?) in Trossingen Germany, and was educated by Dave, very inspiring. Before this I learned to play with the pucker and had really big issues with tongue blocking. It just did not feel good. So I switched to jazzy style chromatic for a couple of years and ended my subscription at bluesharmonica.com. But this was a rather lonesome enterprise and after a couple of years I stopped playing and started singing in a opera choir for 4 years (I am a rather good bariton with a musical ear I found out, even sung in Bach's Mathew Passion, greatest experience)

Around a month ago I was sitting in our village pub, which is also a music cafe where they do jam sessions with a life band every month and we were talking about playing an instrument. Yes I said I played the harmonica for some time. Ok said a starting female Jazz singer "we can do something together". So we started practising on St James Infirmary. I choose chromatic. One week later the jam session started on a Sunday afternoon. Just when it was our turn the cafe owner/band leader/saxophonist said to me we were on in a minute and after this we can do a blues in G. Ok I said. My wife looked at me if I was going crazy but I played it cool.

So after St Infirmary Blues, which was OK but the singer had difficulties staying in tune, the blues started. I choose the C diatonic and off we went. I had the greatest time of my life and the audience, mostly locals, were extatic. My wife filmed on her phone. Looking back I can see it was not great although there were a few nice moments but most importantly I was completely into it and it felt fantastic, no nerves just playing.

Next day I renewed my subscription at bluesharmonica.com starting from the beginning and now practising the tongue blocking in order to get the hang of it, bacause without a good tongue block no blues on the harp.
