Level 6 - Levels of Achievement

Within this lesson plan you’ll learn how to use octaves; focus notes, textures; horn lines; organ padding; the second position blues scale; and how to build chords and create sequences.

After submitting your material, a confirmation page will provide you with a link to pay the $55 testing fee. Reminder... to receive LOA recognition the program is to be completed in order (starting from Level 1).

  1. Lesson Plan/Requirements

    • "The Split" Tongue Block Study 4

      In this lesson you’ll learn how to produce octaves on the harmonica.

    • Solo Harmonica Study 3

      Work on Examples 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 2.3, 2.4 or 2.7 with a Metronome (you choose the tempo)

    • Improvising Study 2 – Focus Notes & Texture

      In this lesson you’ll learn how to intuitively play from chorus to chorus while keeping track of what main notes you’ve played and the textures you used to present them.

    • Accompaniment Study 6 – Horn Lines & Organ Padding

      In this study you’ll learn the art of how to play horn lines on the harmonica, as well as how to use organ ideas to create great chordal textures under vocals and soloists.

    • Movement Exercises – Scales

      Focus on the G Blues Scale, this what we use to play with a bluesy/minor feel.

    • Music Theory Study 3

      In this lesson you learn how to build extended chords and play sequences in order to add unity across the 12 Bar Blues Progression.

Once you’ve completed this material it’s now time record and submit the written section to David for review.

  • Make sure to watch Intermediate Student Ryan Walker to see how he's doing with the same material.

  • As you're having fun learning how to improvise take some time to understanding the different grooves used in the blues (shuffles, swings, slow blues, etc.) with Performance Training: Groove.
