Now experiment with playing on the same harmonica, the C Harmonica in this case, in the four modes/positions that we've already experimented with.

Grab your C Harmonica and play to the following...

1) Jam Track in the Key of C - Play the scale from 4+ to 7+ and then improvise a bit, focusing on 4+ as being your home base. Note the very Major sound. This is the Major Mode, 1st Position.

2) Jam Track in the Key of G - Play the scale from 2 to 6+ and then improvise a bit, focusing on 2 as being your home base. Note the very Major sound, except for the bluesy 5 draw (F). This is the Mixolydian Mode, 2nd Position.

3) Jam Track in the Key of D - Play the scale from 4 to 8 and then improvise a bit, focusing on 4 as being your home base. Note the darker sound, especially for the bluesy 5 (F) and 7+ (C). This is the Dorian Mode, 3rd Position.

4) Jam Track in the Key of A - Play the scale from 3" to 6 and then improvise a bit, focusing on 3" or 6 as being your home base. Note the VERY dark, minor sound. This is the Minor Mode, 4th Position. The result will most likely be too dark, so grab a jam track in A Minor (listed commonly as Am) and improvise again... the results are pretty cool.
