Bassman vs Peavy Classic 50

Since watching the Bassman Chronicles, I have been keeping an eye out for a used Bassman, but have found there are not a lot of them showing up on my local craigslist and the ones I find elsewhere are a bit out of my price range especially if it needs mods. A local music shop has a used Peavy Classic 50, 410 for sale. I've looked for comparisons online, but have only found reviews by guitar players.
Does anyone have any experience with that amp and how it compares to a Bassman relative to harps and any necessary modifications?
