Another book review ...
The UK's Neil Warren recently interviewed Shane Sager on his "Harmonica Happy Hour Podcast." (If you're not listentening to Neil's great interviews, you're really missing out.) Shane talked about his new book, Beyond Breath: The Journey of a Harmonica Player (Manuscripts Press 2025). I bought a copy, and just finished it today.
As harmonica players, there are lots of things we already know about playing our instrument. But it really, really helps to have a fellow musician like Shane repeat stuff we already know, and add new stuff, from another perspective. A lot of what he says about practice and performance is right in line with David's teaching philosophy, but it's really an inspiration to get Shane's angle.
A quick read, but with lots of great literary references and musical insight.
Available from Amazon, but as you are a fellow supporter of local live music, try your local independent bookstore first.
