Hello Harp Techs, the HOHNER Marine Band 1896 Harmonica is the gold standard for customizers, and is a popular "out of the box" choice for players around the world. HARPSMITH Bencraft #9 will demonstrate how to improve and preserve the spirit of the Marine Band 1896.

Why it Matters

The unique assembly process that Mathias Hohner designed over 128 years ago was essential in creating this near air tight harmonica. So much in fact, the tone and playability rely on it. So does the Marine Band 1896 Harmonica have a downside?

Point of fact--yes. With extended play the Pearwood Comb would swell, making the mouthpiece extremely uncomfortable--especially for those players who use the tongue blocking embochure.

In this episode I will demonstrate how to replace the Pearwood comb with DymaLux--a wood composite material impervious to moisture.

If the swelling issue of the Marine Band 1896 could be eliminated--making this instrument comfortable, while preserving the vintage tone and playability--would that be of interest to you? If so, here is the link:
