Sonny Boy Williamson II - Low F Question
Hi David,
I have been looking into buying a Low F harmonica for the Sonny Boy Williamson II artist study and I was thinking of purchasing a Hohner Thunderbird Low F. I am just wondering is this low F lower than the key you are using or is it the same? I know there is a low-low F as well, but I am referring to the one higher than that. I love the artist study song and can't wait to get stuck into it.
Also do you happen to have any recommendation for good online sellers of Hohner Thunderbird harmonicas that will ship to China? I can't find a local retailer here in Beijing.
Thanks
Gerard
In the mean time, use a program like the Amazing Slowdowner to change the key up a whole step so that you can use your G Harmonica until you get that Low-F.
Thanks for the reply David. Yes, I have the amazing slow downer and I was going to do exactly that. Happy Christmas!
Just an update: My Hohner Thunderbird Low-F arrived this afternoon and it is wonderful. I got it through MusiciansFriend.com and they shipped it out very fast, but UPS took their sweet time getting it to me and there was some customs to deal with and a tariff, but it was worth it. Great harmonica!
However, after I had played it a little while I decided to read the information leaflet inside the case and written there in bold print is: "After playing DO NOT TAP...as this may put the heavy super-low reeds out of alignment or gap."
And there was me thinking I knew how to handle a harmonica. So caution to all, do not spank your new thunderbird harmonicas.
Thanks for the help David.
Interesting... I didn't see that note.

Good question... yes, it is a "standard" Low-F, not a Low-Low-F. You might want to look into contacting some of the harmonica specialty companies such as Harp Depot (http://www.harpdepot.com/) and building a relationship with one of them so that after the first couple of orders it becomes easy for you to drop them an email and say, "send me that new model!" Otherwise, Amazon.com or MusiciansFriend.com is always good, but I'm not sure if they ship where you're at. Happy Holidays to you!
