Different Types of Tremolo and Vibrato - Part 7, Vibrato (3')
Play a 3' and turn on your tremolo... for most players a vibrato will be produced. As the throat opens it bends the 3' a little more and as the throat closes the bend releases a little bit.
If it's not happening for you...
For newer players it's common to either hear the bend completely disappear when starting the tremolo or the tremolo doesn't budge the pitch of the bend. In both cases their tongue and throat (and probably neck and back muscles) are tense. In the first case, as they start their tremolo their muscles relax and their tongue moves out of the bend (they're used to bending with tension... this is a habit to get over). In the second case, there's way too much tension in everything and the tongue has no chance of being influenced by the the throat tremolo. In both cases, it's necessary to work on bending without tension.
