Joe is back
Hi Joe,
because there was some time before your new videos came in I was afraid you were giving up. But luckily you did not. I find it very courageous of you that you are showing your progress before the camera. Most, if not all, of your struggles I have been experiencing as well. I am playing now for 2 years, mainly with instruction books and videos (including Dave's) and youtube and now a bluesharmonica member for about a month. In the earlier days (25 years ago) I have been trying piano but the lessons were horrifically frustrating so no more personal tutoring and therefore this way with David is ideal for me. I can see this akwardness I experienced with the piano lessons in your videos of trying, failing, trying again, not succeeding if someone is looking (especially the master himselve) etc.
This side really made a change for me and I have the feeling I am getting somewhere now. I started as puckerer but trying to do as much TB as possible without forcing. it is al a matter of practise and time. I am practising at least an hour a day, not including looking at Dave's videos, interviews, visiting the forum etc.
You as a novice starting directly with tongue blocking will pay out definitely, but the start seems more difficult and getting a good clear tone will take time.
As you I am a late starter (53 years now) with the blues harp although it must be even more frustrating for you as a practising musician to get started from basics again.
keep up the good work and do not give up. I find that progress comes in waves.
In 2 years time I am hooked and addicted to this small instrument covered by hands, where no one knows how the hell someone is getting those tones out which moves the soul.
best of luck, Izaak

Joe Is Back
Hi Izaak;
I definitely have not given up on the harp. I am glad that my lesson videos have been beneficial to you. I am impressed that you practice at least one hour per day. That is a commitment that should pay off./
Keep enjoying playing and learning.
Joe
