I'm really happy with my Sennheiser 609. Lies flat against the amp face (no stand needed) and adds nothing to the tone being put out by the amp. I think the term is 'transparent' , reasonably priced too. I've used it into a PA at jams and to record at home.

609 or 906?

i have a '57 and its fine, but used a sennheiser (as per Hank's comment) on boxing day gig. i dont know about the sound but i could appreciate the practical aspects of no stand cluttering up the space. chatting to the soundy, he told me he is using them whenever possible now because they are so good and easy to set up.
oh..except i was using a 906. i am not sure what the difference is, apart from about +$90 for the 906!
